City’s mobile library extends services to far-flung barangays

IN support of the literacy program of the City Government of Davao, the Davao City Library and Information Center continuously visits various villagers of different barangays who are deprived of coming to the city library to avail of its library services due to the distance.
In an effort to bring the populace back to the library, the Davao City Library and Information Center, through its Mobile Library, extends its services to people of different tribes in the city.
It aims to enhance one’s reading skills and bring about innovation that will help in the development of literacy program of said locale.
New services were augmented in 2013 including film showing with learning insights emphasizing moral values, digital storytelling, and the basics in computer literacy tutorial.
In partnership with the Beyond Access; a community of world’s most innovative public libraries who support the idea that libraries power development, and develop 21st century libraries around the world, three modern service areas were introduced such as Digital Literacy, eGovernment, and Workforce Development.
With the Mobile Library, the aforesaid modern services were rendered to community of different tribes in the city and utilization had dramatically increased. In particular, Indigenous People (IP) were given such during the “Pasko Fiesta Sa Dabaw” in different districts; an annual celebration during yuletide seasons when guests especially the IPs are warmly welcomed to the city proper.
It serves the community in as far as Barangay Datu Salumay, Marilog District and in Paquibato District.
It regularly serves the different elementary schools in rural areas during academic years and it never stops serving the community as it conducts Mobile Library Summer Caravan in various villages in the city.
